Description:

Ad-Aware scans your computer for spyware. This is software that watches what you are doing and can relay that back to companies/individuals who want to know more about you (ex. Shopping). To help their companies along, they'll send you selected advertisements (pop-ups). After awhile, most people accumulate thousands of pieces of spyware that can cause their computers to popup TONS of ads, run slowly, or in some cases, stop functioning all together.

Version "SE" is the newest of the Lavasoft Aware Tools. You must have this version to continue recieving Definition Updates.

Instructions

1	To Open: In Windows XP, Goto Start->All Programs->Lavasoft Adaware SE->Adaware SE Personal
2	Everytime you scan, connect to the internet and click the "check for updates" link.
3	If updates are available click okay to download them and when downloading finishes, click finish.
4	You're now back at the main Ad-Aware menu. Click "start" to proceed.
5	Select "Use custom scanning options" and click "Customize"
6	At this menu, you'll want to be sure "Scan my IE Favorites for banned URLs" and "Scan my Hosts file" are selected. If they aren't simply click on the red X and they'll turn green. When finished, click the "Proceed" button.
7	Click "Next" to begin the scan. The scanning time will vary based on the speed of your computer and how full your hard drives are. Scans could potentially take up to an hour.
8	When the scan is complete. You'll see a screen like below. Click "Next ".
9	Right click on the checkbox next to any of the items that were found. You'll see a list like the one below. Click "Select all objects". This will save you from having to click each box individually.
10	Click "Next". You'll be prompted with "# objects will be removed. Continue?". Click "Yes".
11	When the Quarantining/Deleting finishes, you'll be taken back to the main screen. Simply exit from there. If you are prompted with a message saying it couldn't remove all items and will do so on the next reboot, finish like normal, close the program, reboot the computer, and adaware will scan through one more time. Let it scan and remove anything it finds.
